What is the Diversity Speaker Series?

In alignment with VIPKid’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and the Community Guidelines that were released last summer, the Diversity Speaker Series is a quarterly series of virtual events that will provide teachers with opportunities to hear from unique perspectives and viewpoints, challenge personal paradigms, and celebrate diversity. Thought leaders and experts will be invited to speak on a variety of topics that could include race, ethnicity, gender, identity, religion, age, veteran status, ability status, and social justice.

As part of VIPKid’s diversity mission to create a global classroom where all are welcomed to learn, we believe that teachers with diverse perspectives and backgrounds are essential to our mission of inspiring and empowering every child for the future. VIPKid is working to live our DEI commitment in practice and this series is one aspect of ongoing efforts to address DEI across all areas of VIPKid. We hope this series will continue to nurture an inclusive teacher community where everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, age, or other personal identity factors is welcomed and valued.

All teachers are invited to register for the Speaker Series. Please note that there will be limited space for these events. The speakers will be announced in the Weekly Teacher Update as soon as the information is available.

Some Terms to know:

Diversity: Diversity has come to refer to the various backgrounds and races that comprise a community, nation or other grouping. In many cases the term diversity does not just acknowledge the existence of diversity of background, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and so on, but implies an appreciation of these differences

Equity: Equity is the guarantee of fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all stakeholders, while at the same time striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have systemically prevented the full participation of historically underserved and underrepresented populations.

Inclusion: Authentically bringing traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making in a way that shares power.

Identity: Generally speaking, identity is the way that we as individuals perceive and express ourselves. In the context of this series, speakers may speak about the way that their identities have impacted their lives. Additionally, the series may invite you to reflect on your own identity more deeply or think about aspects of your identity that you may not have focused on previously.

Teacher Meetups
Connect with VIPKid teachers every week!
The most frequent events for teachers are VIPKid Meetups, which are teacher-led gatherings that are currently being held online. Meetups are meant to provide a space to foster friendship and community for all VIPKid teachers.  In addition to this page, check the Weekly Teacher Update for the most up-to-date information and announcements related to any Teacher Meetups.

Check out the list of registered Virtual Meetups from the list below. Click the Meetup title directly to see more details and register for each individual event.

If you think there's a Meetup missing from the list, check back here in a few days as these are updated weekly.

If you register for a Meetup, but are no longer able to attend, please contact the host to let them know. Online platforms have limits on the number of participants, so hosts may want to open up any spots that are available if you cannot attend.

In-person Meetups are still on hold due to COVID-19, and we will be sure to let the community know as soon as there are any updates!

Throughout the year, VIPKid may put on special events for teachers. Check back here for any upcoming special events!
Events Code of Conduct

The Teacher community is unlike any other community out there. We are so excited for teachers and staff to connect, learn, engage, and have fun with one another. The goal of all events is to help provide this space for teachers (both online and in person) in a safe and fun environment. We value and appreciate the participation of all teachers and look forward to creating friendly and welcome spaces for all.

VIPKid reserves the right to modify or adjust this Code of Conduct at any time, without notice.

Your hosting of an event, or registration or attendance at any event (teacher-led or one organized by staff) indicates your agreement to abide by the following principles.

  1. Communicate with kindness.
  2. Be mindful of how you interact with others.
  3. Assume best intent.
  4. Harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated.
    1. We are dedicated to providing a harassment and discrimination-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), technology choices, or membership in any protected class. We do not tolerate harassment of or discrimination against conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Meetups, Twitter and other online media. Event attendees violating these expectations may be expelled from the event without any applicable refund at the discretion of the event organizers.
    2. If you believe you are being harassed or discriminated against, or believe someone else is being harassed or discrimination against, or have any other concerns, please contact meetup@vipkid-intl.com for Meetups or events@vipkid-intl.com for other events.

All those in attendance at events are expected to follow this Code of Conduct and may be asked to leave if any of these principles are violated.

VIPKid endeavors to build a safe, supportive, and connected teacher community and works to create events and opportunities to empower teachers.  It is important that every event attendee adheres to these principles in order to create positive spaces in which the teacher community can continue to grow.
