About the Rural Education Project and Token Heroes
VIPKid launched our Rural Education Project in 2017. Since then, we have enabled more than 30,000 children in poverty-stricken areas in China to learn English from world-class teachers.
We are now ready to bring this project to both teachers and parents. Let’s work together and create a better world by giving the next generation the gift of English! Your contributed tokens will provide English education to children living in parts of China.

How can I support Token Heroes?
Easy! Just contribute your spare tokens. And remember, even one token will make a difference. 180 tokens equals to one minute of English education to rural children. 25 minutes amounts to one full lesson.
Each time you contribute tokens, you will be awarded a Contribution Diploma. You can share this on social media or save it as a picture on your phone. There’s also a function that lets you anonymize your personal details, if you want.
Please note that once you have contributed tokens, you will not be able to undo your action, or recover your tokens.

How can I keep track of my contributions?
All of your contributions will be displayed on the Records page and are updated in real-time. There, you can see how many tokens and minutes of English lessons that you have contributed to in total. By tapping on a specific contribution that you have made in the past, you can view your Contribution Diploma.
We will also update you on the progress of the Token Heroes every month, including the total amount of contributed tokens from all teachers, and how many classes those tokens have contributed to in the “How We Use Tokens” page.

How does the Rural Education Project work?
VIPKid cooperates with several local non-profit organizations in China that coordinate the Rural Education Project together with us. Schools that meet our requirements, and that are in need of extra foreign language classes can apply to join the project. Participation is completely free for admitted schools and their students.
Representatives from VIPKid will then install the necessary equipment at the school if needed. All classes taught in the Rural Education Project will be with specially trained VIPKid teachers. At the moment, we have over 400 teachers involved in this project.

How are my tokens being used?
Your tokens are exchanged for time to the Rural Education Project. 180 tokens equal to one minute of class time. One class is 25 minutes, and each class will have up to 25 students.
Are VIPKid parents involved in this as well?
Yes! We have a similar activity on the parent side going on as well. While they can’t contribute tokens, they can donate classes instead. One Major Course class equals to one Rural Education Project class.
